Live est un groupe de post-grunge/rock américain de York en Pennsylvanie. Live a atteint son apogée dans les années 90.
Le groupe est composé de Ed Kowalczyk (chanteur et guitare), Chad Taylor (guitare), Patrick Dahlheimer (guitare basse), et Chad Gracey (batterie). Depuis 1999, Live fait ses tournées avec le petit frère de Ed, Adam Kowalczyk, et auparavant avec le claviériste anglais Michael “Railo†Railton.
Live a d'abord été connu sous les noms de First Aid et Public Affection. La formation proposait à ses débuts un répertoire de chansons de R.E.M., The Cure et Psychedelic Furs. Live a fait paraître son premier disque en 1991. Intitulé "Mental Jewelry", il passa prêt d'être certifié or aux États-Unis. En 1994, après une longue tournée avec Public Image Limited (le groupe de John Lydon, alias Johnny Rotten des Sex Pistols), B.A.D. et Blind Melon, Live a mis sur le marché "Throwing Copper".
Ce fut la consécration avec six millions d'unités vendues. Le troisième album de Live, intitulé "Secret Samadhi", se retrouve chez les disquaires en février 1997. Certifié double platine après sa parution, la majorité des chansons figurant sur le disque ont été écrites lors d'un séjour prolongé de Live en Jamaïque.
Deux ans plus tard est paru "The Distance to Here". Ce dernier est considéré comme leur album le plus puissant, avec des titres évocateurs comme "The Dolphins Cry", "They Stood Up For Love" et "Run to the Water". Pendant la tournée de promotion de "The Distance to Here", qui s'est échelonnée sur 14 mois, Ed Kowalczyk a écrit beaucoup de chansons. Du moins assez pour produire un cinquième album qui s'intitule "V" et qui est lancé en septembre 2001. En mai 2003, le groupe américain est de retour avec un sixième effort qu'il intitule "Birds of Prey".
Alors que Live reste modérement populaire aux États-Unis, le groupe a gagné un franc succès à l'étranger, particulièrement en Europe (selon Ed Kowalczyk: “Les Pays-Bas sont le centre de l'univers de Liveâ€), en Australie et en Nouvelle-Zélande.

J'ai découvert Live à Noel 1999 grâce à mon cousin qui venait de recevoir The Distance To Here. Je me suis ensuite procuré Secret Samadhi et Throwing Copper pour m'appercevoir que je connaissais déjà plusieurs morceaux qui passaient à la radio.
Un excellent groupe rock auquel je reviens régulièrement!
J'ai écouté rapidement Songs From Black Moutain, ça avait l'air bien!
